Welcoming 45 Kenyan trainees from Bukura Agricultural College to the 2024 traineeship program

After a long wait for the start of their traineeship, the group of Kenyan trainees arrived at Frankfurt Airport on June 8, 2024, where they were welcomed by the members of AKI.

After everyone was taken by bus to the Workers' Welfare Association (Arbeiterwohlfahrt, AWO) in Böblingen, an official welcome was given by Falk Kullen, Managing Director of AKI e.V. The first evening began with a joint dinner, where the trainees were able to share their expectations and experiences. Afterwards, important formalities were completed and the program for the coming days was presented. This introduction provided a first opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new environment.

The next day, the introductory files and traineeship documents were discussed and signed. The trainees were shown a presentation that familiarized them with the importance of report booklets. A cultural introduction offered exciting insights and prepared the group for living and working in a new country. The day ended again with entertaining leisure activities, where the trainees were able to enjoy the evening in a relaxed atmosphere.

Monday began with packing and preparations for the next big step: getting to know the families. Before that, there was a safety briefing by the agricultural employers' liability insurance association. This important part of the course ensured that everyone started their traineeships well prepared and informed about possible sources of danger and accident prevention. This was followed by the introductory seminar for the host families, at which the host farms were first welcomed by AKI Chairman Mr. Wichert and then informed about the traineeship procedures.

The highlight of the day was the official handover of the trainees to the host families. After a joint photo, which captured the team spirit and excitement of the group, the trainees and their host families were sent off to their traineeships in various parts of southern Germany.

The weekend was a complete success and offered the Kenyan trainees a perfect combination of information, preparation and fun. We look forward to following their progress and wish them a successful and enriching time at their host farms.
