On May 3 and May 5, 2026, two groups of Kenyan trainees arrived in Southern Germany to begin their internships on agricultural farms. This marks the sixth group of interns from Kenya to conduct an agricultural internship in Germany through the program organized by AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V.

This year, a total of 80 young students from Bukura Agricultural College were welcomed in Germany. Due to the large number of participants, the group was divided into two cohorts of approximately 40 trainees each. They travelled on two separate flights, departing two days apart, and were accompanied by AKI project manager Verena Jauß and two coordinators from Kenya – Davies Kamau Ngure and Rebah Simiyu.

To ensure smooth preparation, a joint introductory training session for the entire 2026 cohort was conducted in advance at Bukura Agricultural College under the guidance of the AKI and BAC coordinators with the support of Duncan Nyawalo and the former intern Timothy Namunje, who included personal experiences and could answer many questions of the interns. During this introduction week, the future trainees received detailed information about life in Germany, the structure of the internship program, and the requirements and expectations during their stay.

After arriving at Frankfurt Airport, the trainees continued their journey by coach to Southern Germany, where they were distributed among their assigned host farms. This marked the beginning of an exciting and enriching experience for both the host families and the young trainees.

Over the next six to nine months, the participants will gain valuable hands-on experience in German agriculture while developing both professional and personal skills.
