Pan African Farmers’ Organization Exchange Platform: CMT TRAINING in Kigali

Andreas Hermes Akademie (AHA) e.V. and Pan African Farmers’ Organisation (PAFO) organized a three-day training in presence in Kigali from May 10th to 12th, 2023, for the Core Moderation Team (CMT). AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V. provides technical support for the development of the platform.

15 participants from 12 African countries (Kenya, Congo-Kinshasa, Cameroun, Tshad, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mail, Congo, Eswatini, Tanzania, South Africa and Tunisia) took part in the training. The training was organized by Insaf Boughdiri (PAFO Communications Manager), Zubeiri Bihangamanywa (PAFO Assistant to the Manager), Julian Friesinger (AHA Program Manager) while Francis Offermann (AHA Trainer) implemented the training.  The aim of the training was to strengthen the capacities of CMT members on important aspects regarding moderation.

The three-day training included the following major aspects:

  • Principles of moderation;
  • Moderation cycle;
  • Communication tools;
  • Planning of sessions.

The participants also discussed current relevant topics for farmers' organizations. Consequently, the five Regional Farmer Organisations (RFO) have chosen topics that they would work on in the future according to their competencies which include:

  • Lobbying&advocacy;
  • Climate change;
  • Ressource mobilization;
  • Farmer organisation(FO) management;
  • Communication.

As of June 2023, the CMT members will organize online sessions on the  different chosen topics.  Through the platform, African FOs will learn from each other and share lessons learned in different fields to effectively and efficiently develop their capacities and competences.
