Promoting exchange between Farmers’ Organizations under the umbrella of WFO

Since the beginning of 2020 AKI is implementing the project 'Transitional Agriculture' - promoting exchange between Farmers’ Organizations under the umbrella of the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) in close cooperation with Andreas Hermes Akademie (AHA). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The aim of the cooperation project is to strengthen the WFO and its member organizations through the exchange on agricultural issues related to transitional agriculture, with a specific focus on family farming. In 2020 three seminar blocks are being hosted together with WFO members from Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Russia and Germany. Due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, the seminars in 2020 will be held digitally which is a new way of conducting seminars for AKI with great future potential. The different seminar blocks will focus on the elaboration of collective solutions for national Farmers’ Organisations to help their members by tackling the current pandemic situation and future challenges such as digitization, network building and further more.

The first seminar block consists of three pre-seminars between end of May until mid-June and one concluding seminar on July 3rd, which will be organised by the WFO.

Based on a survey among the participants, marketing and logistics were selected as the main topics for the first seminar block. During the first two pre-seminars collective solutions such as collecting centres, certification systems, innovative retail systems and the establishment of common online platforms were discussed.  During the 3rd seminar, the results of the first two seminars were discussed in order to be shared with a wider audience in form of a final presentation at the concluding seminar on July 3rd.
