Monitoring, Evaluation and Knowledge management is a core element of AKI’s project implementation approach. 

From 15 to 21 February 2026, the Project Manager of AKI, Teklezghi Teklebrhan, conducted a field visit to Burundi to assess project progress, strengthen coordination with partners, and further develop knowledge management. The visit focused on three objectives: 

• Monitoring ongoing activities through field visits and stakeholder consultations
• Evaluating completed measures against planned indicators and beneficiary feedback
• Systematically management and use of insights from previous experiences and advance the planning of the next project phase together with the local partner. 

Meetings and workshops were held with both new and long-standing partners, including the project committee in Gitega, the Maschinenring Foundation GmbH, the Director of the Provincial Office of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, the Environment Conscious Youth Association in Ngozi, and long-time partner Pater Walter Stärk.

The visit resulted in strengthened partnerships, clearer roles and responsibilities within the project team, and a concrete roadmap for the implementation of upcoming activities. 

The visit was concluded with a coordination meeting at the SEZ Office in Bujumbura with Raissa Mpundu.

A key takeaway from the visit was the need to further strengthen cooperation with local authorities to enhance coordination and long-term sustainability.

Overall, the mission reinforced collaboration on the ground and ensured that project implementation remains responsive, evidence-based, and impact-oriented.
