Bread baking course at the Agricultural Social Education and Training Centre in Gitega, Burundi

12 participants (6 men and 6 women) took part in a three-week training (01.11. – 22.11.2022) about bread baking in line with the development of bread value chain. The participants had different backgrounds and come from the Camellian brothers and sisters, the neighbouring village and from the university of Gitega. The participants learned how to bake a variety of different breads which vary in type and price. Some bread types are made with honey, milk, and eggs.

The objective of the training was to produce quality and healthy bread using organic ingredients mostly produced in the project area. Some breads are produced by order while other customers come to the production area to buy. The plan is now to produce more wheat and maize and to add value by baking quality bread.

With the development of the bread value chain, the goal of establishing a self-sustaining education and training centre will be continued in 2023.

The project coordinator on site Mr. Pierre Maniragarura says: ”On our side, we are ready to move forward so that our project may be profitable for us and to our local people as well.”
