We are delighted to announce that, together with our long-standing partner Father Walter Stärk, the construction of a new kindergarten in Gitega, Burundi, has been successfully completed. The new facility will care for around 200 children - a significant step forward for their early childhood development and education.
However, the kindergarten provides much more than just childcare: it also offers new opportunities for parents, especially mothers. With childcare provided, parents can go to work and support their families financially.
The significant demand for childcare spaces, which is currently unmet, underscores the crucial importance of this project for the local community. The impact of the kindergarten reaches well beyond its immediate area, emphasizing the urgent need for additional facilities of this kind.
In the long term, the kindergarten operation will be handed over to local stakeholders - the church and civil society actors - thus strengthening local ownership and responsibility.
This project is a concrete contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and takes place within the framework of the partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi.
A special thanks goes to Father Walter Stärk, who has lived in Burundi for 62 years and, at over 90 years of age, continues to bring great hope to children and families.
This project is implemented with financial support from the State Parliament and the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg through the Foundation for Development Cooperation Baden-Württemberg (SEZ).
