As part of the project „Structural Integration of the Agricultural Social Education and Training Center in Gitega, Burundi”, at the end of March 2024, the on-site project team and AKI e.V. jointly conducted a professional exchange with 25 agricultural advisors from the Province of Gitega. These agricultural experts, who come from various regions of the province are responsible for advising on agricultural topics.

During the professional exchange, the agricultural advisors discussed various topics, including sustainable agriculture in the region and strategies for knowledge transfer to farmers. Under the leadership of Pierre Maniragarura, the on-site project team of the Agricultural Social Education and Training Center presented the principles of permaculture and demonstrated composting techniques. The guests also visited the project's bakery and cowshed.

During the professional exchange, challenges such as climate change, its associated environmental damage, erosion, deforestation, and the use of chemical fertilizers and their impact on the environment were discussed. The agricultural advisors also exchanged views on the region-specific differences of these challenges.

The results of the professional exchange included the intention to continue such events and to pass on the acquired expertise to the farmers.

The on-site project team, in collaboration with AKI, plans to organize monthly trainings on various agricultural topics and regular professional exchanges for agricultural advisors in the future.
