Putting Global Sustainability into Practice

Since 2020, AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V. has been active in Burundi. In several regions of the country, AKI links the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with concrete on-the-ground measures - creating an integrated approach to ecological, social, and economic development.

Examples of AKI’s initiatives in Burundi since 2020:

  • Agriculture and Food Security: Sustainable farming methods improve soil conservation and crop yields (SDG 2).
  • Income Generation: Local jobs and small business creation provide stable incomes (SDG 1).
  • Health & Energy: Energy-saving stoves and biogas protect both health and the climate (SDGs 3, 7, 13).
  • Education & Gender Equality: Trainings empower women and young people (SDGs 4, 5).
  • Water: Wells ensure access to clean drinking water (SDG 6).
  • Climate & Environment: Reforestation and environmental education promote climate protection and community resilience (SDGs 13, 15).

AKI’s projects in Burundi demonstrate how global sustainability can be put into action through tangible measures and strong partnerships - such as the AMAHORO BW-Burundi Partnership (SDG 17).
