Small-Scale Biogas Units for Burundi

To combat deforestation and promote sustainable energy, AKI has launched a project introducing small-scale biogas units in Burundi. These systems, built from local materials, reduce reliance on firewood, ease the burden on women and children, and improve household health. In partnership with Kenyan expert Charles Mwangi, AKI trained six Burundian technicians to construct and maintain the units, empowering them to share their knowledge locally. The project supports climate protection and energy efficiency while fostering community self-reliance - offering a practical solution to both environmental and social challenges.

This project is implemented with financial support from the State Parliament and the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg through the Foundation for Development Cooperation Baden-Württemberg (SEZ).
