Visit of former AKI trainees to the AGRI-AFRIKA exhibition in Nairobi

The 1st Annual AGRI-AFRICA Exhibition was held from 9th – 12th of May 2023 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Nairobi, Kenya. The event showcased cutting-edge technologies and solutions that are geared towards sustainable and smart farming practices.

The exhibition provided a platform for all stakeholders in the agricultural value chain and industry partners to come together and showcase their innovations, products, and services.

In the framework of the follow-up program, AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V. and Bukura Agricultural Colleges (BAC) jointly organized an excursion for cohort 2021 and cohort 2022 on 10th of May 2023. The former trainees had the opportunity to learn about the advancements in agriculture and explore their potential to play their role in improving Kenyan agriculture.

The excursion was very informative and a great occasion for the former trainees to re-unite again. The participants draw a positive balance:

Richard See from Cohort 2022 said, "We had the chance to engage directly with suppliers, explore new agricultural solutions, and make informed decisions for our farming operations, which was really resourceful for the development of our growing farms."

"Overall, the Agri-Africa exhibition excursion was a successful event, with a focus on utilizing information to enhance agriculture. By bringing together various stakeholders and showcasing innovative technologies, the exhibition contributed to the advancement of sustainable and smart farming practices on the continent," said Doreen Imbuka from Cohort 2022.

According to Lokwawi Johnstone from Cohort 2021, "It served as a testament to the potential of leveraging information and data-driven approaches to transform African agriculture into a more productive and efficient sector."

Lumonya Sharleen from Cohort 2021 expressed, "As a horticulturalist, going to KICC was the best. I managed to learn about value addition for various fruits and herbs. I also learned about new technologies in horticultural production. Though short, it was a wonderful experience."

As part of the follow-up programme, AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V. and Bukura Agricultural College (BAC) will organize several field trips in Kenya, and we will keep you informed about this project component.
